「知識」を届けるための倉庫から、
新たな「問い」が生まれる場所へ。
山科は、京都駅から電車でわずか5分とアクセスの良さを持ちながら、
一歩足を踏み入れれば豊かな自然と静かな住宅街が広がる、等身大の「暮らし」が紡がれている街です。
この街に佇む築60年のビンテージビルを、京都の学校へ教科書を届ける物流拠点へと改装しました。
山科倉庫ギャラリー「余白」は、その拠点の一角を舞台としたプロジェクトです。
この倉庫では、冬から春の入学シーズンに向けて教科書の検品や出荷作業がピークを迎えます。
そして、その役割がひと息つく6月から11月までの約半年間、倉庫は静かな閑散期となります。
私たちは、この場所に毎年訪れる閑散期を、教育や地域へ貢献し、新たな創造を育むための「余白」と捉えました。
教科書の物流が休まるこの期間、倉庫は期間限定のアートスペースへと姿を変え、
感性を刺激する表現や、思いがけない出会いの場として開かれます。
知の物流と、感性の実験。
日常と非日常のふたつを行き来しながら、この「余白」から新しい視点を発信していきます。
From a warehouse that
delivers knowledge to a place
where new questions emerge.
Yamashina is conveniently located just a 5-minute train ride from Kyoto Station,
yet stepping into the area reveals a tranquil neighborhood surrounded by nature, where everyday local life unfolds.
A 60-year-old vintage building located in this quiet neighborhood was renovated into a warehouse for delivering textbooks
to schools across Kyoto. Yamashina Warehouse Gallery “YOHAKU” is a project set within a corner of this logistics hub.
From winter through spring, the warehouse reaches its peak activity, handling the inspection and shipping of textbooks
for the new school year. After this busy season, the space enters a quiet off-peak period from June through November.
We see this annually recurring off-peak period as “YOHAKU”—a blank space left open for contributing to education and
the local community, and for nurturing new creative possibilities.
During these months when textbook logistics rest, the warehouse transforms into a temporary art space, fostering
creative expression and unexpected encounters.

Traversing the ordinary and the extraordinary, YOHAKU shares fresh perspectives directly from this blank space.
